DreamHost

Well, the bandwagon seems to have worked out, and I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. I was expecting just a web hosting service, but after looking DreamHost has a great many additional services that they offer. Subversion (but sadly, no git), email services (I think I can set up like 3k addresses), a free domain registration, ssh login, and I could even do things like MediaWiki should I choose to.

All in all, I’m pretty impressed with the offering, all for about $10/month. (Which is free for the first year, thanks to bandwagon). It’s almost as if they had a bunch of Linux geeks who know the kind of services I’d like to use/see. (Which I’m sure is actually the case).

I’m starting to see why people were complaining about how anemic Apple’s .Mac is. The cost is the same, yet DreamHost offers much, much more. Still, there are things about .Mac that I’m not willing to give up (.Mac Sync rocks, and I’m too lazy to figure out a way to do it with a different service), so I think I’ll be using both for the foreseeable future.

Incidentally, my new domain is pariahzero.net. I chose it because “Pariah Zero” is my Xbox Live GamerTag, and I’ve been using Pariah as a pseudonym for years now. That and it sounded cool.
